Living Unbound magazine is Unbound’s flagship publication going to around 200 thousand sponsors and supporters. This edition of Living Unbound was a new take on the magazine. Our team focused on creating more of a lifestyle publication for those who live and breathe all things Unbound, with a strong sense of sharing stories from sponsor to sponsored friend.
This new table of contents was designed to bring readers into the stories, instead of a simple list.
The original title of this article was much longer, but in the text, the author used the description ‘rugged and beautiful’ and I knew I had to use that as the title. It was just so fitting and said so much about the places Unbound works.
One privilege of designing this magazine is working with amazing photographers. Some of our team members visited Africa and took this amazing image.
We wanted to bring more content to people with less expense, so we created an online version of the Living Unbound magazine. I wire-framed and designed content, and worked with the development team to implement in Sitecore SXA. I helped manage content and editorial calendars, as well as produced and wrote articles.
With amazing photographers at our fingertips, designing beautiful covers was quite easy and enjoyable. We used subtle layers to enrich the design.
Again, subtle layers, great copy, and extraordinary photography helped make these covers stunning.
I loved playing with applying patterns and using different font treatments for emphasis in articles.
Creating negative space for type can be difficult, but our photographers knew how to take many angles the image to help us create title pages for articles.
Working at Unbound, designers have access to beautiful landscape images from around the globe. I loved utilizing these images for telling the stories of whole communities or groups making positive impact.
